My players groan whenever they come across a statue in a D2G. I declare a moratorium on stone golems in D2Gs ;D
-
If they don't like stone golems any more give them iron golems. ;)
-
Damn - just finished D2G#21 "Reign of the Stonegolems" and now I had to delete everything. :(
-
My players are too. Everytime they pass a statue-like thing they try to kind-off deactivate or destroy it without provocing attacks from fists of golemrage.
Sorry for mistakes and stuff

Call it "Reign of the Bonegolems"... ;D

Call them TGFKAS
The Golem Formaly Known As Stonegolem

Well, if your players are fed up with stone golems, then just give them other monsters.
How about a Caryatid Guard, Terracotta Soldier, Blackstone Colossus, Animated Statue, Living Idol, Chiseled Warrior, Guardian Eidolon...?
-
Players' groaning is often just a means for them to ask for greater challenges. Next time use the dreaded Ray-Harryhausen-golem: A six-armed, epic stone golem! That will teach them...
Also, statues make for great spell turrets and shrapnel traps ;)
Of course, sometimes statues should also be beneficial to the players. You can have treasure caches hidden in them, or they can reveal secret passages if turned the right way...

Or have a couple come "alive" and aid the players for a change - because the PCs found the mystical McGuffin, follow the right god, solved a puzzle, or simply because it can be kinda epic to have the party lead the charge against the armies of evil sorcerer Van Bosheit with a platoon of living statues in tow.
